For directions on removing a carpet stain:

Steps

  1. Apply a dry cleaning solvent, using a dampened towel.
  2. Blot-don’t rub.
  3. Repeat solvent application as above.
  4. Blot-don’t rub.
  5. Water-apply with dampened towel.
  6. Blot-finish with weighted pad of towels. OR

1. Scrape or blot up excess spill.
2. Apply dry baking solution.
3. Scrape and vacuum.
4. Water-using a damp sponge to rinse remaining baking soda. Don’t over wet.
5. Blot-don’t rub.
6. Apply presoak solution (See “cleaning solutions”) using a dampened towel.
7. Water-rinse as above.
8. Blot-don’t rub-dry well.
9. Apply dry power cleaner (See “cleaning solutions”).
10. Vacuum.

Cleaning Solutions to have on hand:

  • Detergent

Mix – 1/2 teaspoon clear dishwashing detergent with one cup of warm (not hot) water.

  • Pre-soak Solution

Mix – 1 teaspoon enzyme laundry detergent (such as Axion, Biz, or others) with one cup of water.

  • Dry Powder Cleaner

– Use a powdered carpet cleaner.

  • Dry Cleaning Solvent

– Non-oily, non-caustic type sold of spot removal for garments.
Caution: May be flammable.

Note:

  • Not all carpet fibers will react the same way when they are treated for stains.
  • Before proceeding with any of these cleaning procedures, we recommend you contact the carpet manufacturer for their suggested maintenance guidelines.
